Hi. My name is Ben King. I'm a fifteen year old freelance web designer and programmer based in Nottingham, England. I specialise in the flavours of PHP, MySQL and Javascript, though I have been known to dabble in HTML, CSS and the ever popular XML/RSS.

Grifball

Rooster Teeth Productions are a machinima filmmaking company based in Austin, Texas. Their popularity is borderline ridiculous. Their website has just over 650,000 registered users (that's more than YouTube if anybody's keeping score). When Burnie Burns, founder of RT, created a new Halo 3 game called "Grifball" it became an instant hit. It was hailed as "the best thing to happen to Halo 3 since its launch". Burns wanted to run a Winter League, inviting users from the Rooster Teeth community website to play together in a competition. When it came to organising this league he wanted a set of tools that would automate the things he was doing in Microsoft Excel manually - taking stats from Bungie.net games and calculating detailed satistics for teams and players in the league. I was hired to automate this process. Unfortunately, me being me, I just couldn't help myself and an entire website for Grifball emerged. The organising of divisions, schedules, statistics and more were handled by the site. Grifball.com became a complete tournament management system (TMS). The first Rooster Teeth Winter League took place in January 2008 with 99 teams and 495 total players. Work on the website is ongoing as feedback from users comes in.

Richard Quick Designs approached me with a client who had had their new website designed, but had nothing powering it. I was brought on to develop a Content Management System for Sam to upload his photos, categorise them, and have them automatically resized to fit computer screens.

A law firm based in Nottingham, April King approached me to create them an online identity so that their clients could more effectively communicate with them. I completed this project in the space of three days, incorporating feedback from the client along the way.

Yu-Gi-Oh: The Abridged Series

One of the most popular channels on YouTube, The Abridged Series is taking the internet by storm. It gets hundreds of thousands of views on its episodes. It is hilarious, smart and some even call it the spiritual successor to the internet storm hit that once was Red vs Blue. The only thing the series didn't have was an official website. I designed and developed the site from scratch with the community in mind: there is even a custom forum built especially for the site. I consider this my most famous creation to date and am insanely proud to have been able to bring such a home to the internet's newest and greatest online comedy series.

Blaze Hair Design

A popular hairdressers in New Milton, Blaze asked me to create an online presence for their business that presented customers with all information they could want in one easy to reach place. The entire site runs off a MySQL database powering the site's content. The owner of the shop can update any piece of text anywhere on the site with a simple and easy form.

'Dangerous' Danny Goode is a professional boxer who is climbing up the ranks and, as time of posting, has not yet been defeated in over 10 bouts. He wanted a place where his fans could go to get the latest news on his matchups and be able to order them online. I was thrilled to have been placed with the honour of creating this for him, and was more than happy to oblige. After about a month of work it was released, and included a Gallery, a PayPal ticket ordering system, and a PHP configurable list of upcoming events. The final result was, in my opinion, the best visually looking website I have designed to date and was the greatest of my achievements.

Lefty Films approached me when they were in the middle of creating their new machinima series Elm Way set in the video game The Movies. They wanted a site that was easy to update and gave the audience interaction, and so they got. Visitors can comment on news entries, behind the scenes images, post reviews of episodes, and participate in the production team's forum. This is the first CMS Keyes Designs has ever created.
